Oreos all around

Let me tell you something about me. I love oreos. maybe too much. definitely too much. k I eat them everyday, tout le jour, eevverry day. But they are just sooo good. I mean, why not eat them everyday? I wake up in the morning to study: oreos. It is late at night and I still have lots more words to type type type: oreos. It is the middle of the day and I somehow find myself at home in my apartment because I forgot my laptop and need to write up that research paper: oreos (and blogging). So basically this post is about nothing except for my deep love of oreos. There is only one rule when you eat oreos with me. You can't only eat one. Two, at least will do, but more is better. Also, when I really love something, I just want to share it with everyone, so I am always looking for people to feed my oreos to. Moral: If you evs want an oreo, give me a ring-a-ling or even just show up at my door. King of Cookie equals Oreo.

Give me Toast or...

Confession: Yes, I am supposed to be writing that lesson plan on personification, but what is wrong with a little snack? Here is the thing, our kitchen is not exactly gourmet. But that is fine because in college, you just make do - at least that is what we say. Problem number one: we don't have a toaster. And yes, this is a big problem because I love toast. Honey on toast, cheese on toast, PB on toast, or even better PB&J on toast, oh yes, eggs on toast with salsa and creamy Swiss cheese - toast is the bomb.com. We have been without a toaster for about five months, but let me tell ya, we would never go without toast. I have gotten pretty great at broiling my toast on the top rack of our oven. I knew when to turn it over, and was almost usually good at taking it out before it burnt. Until our oven stopped working. Well, it was just the top heater. So no more broiling, and instead, we decided to just bake it on the very bottom rack, close to the wire heater, on the highest temperature. Worked. Whew, what would we do without toast? But, this morning, my oh-so-domestic roommate was baking, and because she was way on top of things, she had preheated the oven. Problem number two: How was I supposed to make my toast? Cheese on toast was calling out to my taste buds. And so, don't you worry, I got a lil' bit creative, and here you go, the perfect toast.

Yes, I skewered my toast with a knife, and roasted it over the stove. #sohappywithmyself #yum #cheeseontoast

Here is me in my pajamas, just lovin' my life.

My Brotherz on a mish in B-town

Check out this handsome man:

Walking the Doggie

So maybe my roommate's parents are out of town, and maybe she brought her dog down for the week to keep an eye on him. Ya so maybe we have a dog shuffling around our apartment. His names is Puggs. He is pretty good, usually, but today when I got home, he was prancing off the walls. So I decided, maybe he needed a walk? Then, as I was putting his leash around the collar that was buried somewhere in all his fur, I realized: I have never walked a dog before. Wait what? Yes, I have never walked a dog before. So here it waz, me and Puggs, heading out to do whatever you do when you walk a dog. I mean it wasn't hard; it was actually pretty easy, but I did probably look like a fool when I jogged along side him so that he could trot a little faster. So what, I'm a runner, and he is a dog that needs to get some energy out of his system. Although, I am sure that is not what the girl across the street thought - looks like that little puppy is taking that girl for a one jog of a walk, was what she must have been thinking, or something like that.

SOL March Challenge

During the month of March, there is a Slice of Life challenge that challenges all writers to write a little vignette or their day every day for a month. Love it. Yes, it will be hard, but I am going for it. You should too! Here is a pre-SOL:

Have I ever written about my recent obsession with baths? Well, they are great. Love them. It started small, just using that old tub because it was there, but I soon learned that, well, baths are amazing. Why have I not been taking them my whole life? There is a wide chasm in my bath taking experience between my toddler years to, well, a few months ago. This whole bath taking thing, it only grew bigger and better, started with just warm water and a book, but now I go for the whole, full on, stuffed taco - candles, bath salts, classical music, a bath pillow even. Now hold on now, don't bang it before you try it. When people talk about baths being relaxing they are not kidding.

So this morning was one of those Saturdays when you wake up and it is snowing. 'nough said. Maybe I stayed in bed longer then needs to be mentioned, eating oreos and listening to this podcast (selected shorts) that I quite enjoy. There was a fairy tale, a parody of Rabunzel, on this episode (Wondrous Woman: E. Nesbit's Melisande), and honestly it was pretty great writing. So anywayz, to pull myself out of this snow-globe morning, I decided to take a bath. Candles, some poetry reading for school, and bath salts: my feet always burn when I first step into the water. The rest, is history, or that's what they say. Baths are the best. Go take one right now. But actually, the truth is, our bath tub is the worst; it steadily drained trickle by trickle during my relaxing dip, but no bath tub is perfect ya know, so don't judge, just take a bath.

Haiku Craze

Okay so I seriously have written so many silly Hailkus in the last week or so. This one is not about anyone in particular, just the idea and the feeling. Here ya go:

There is a frame here
in my head, and you don't fit
perfectly, of course;
so it is the frame or you
as far as I can tell.

#tbt on Friday

Beautiful people:

My thoughts on Facebook

Okay so I deleted my Facebook. I actually found a way to delete my Facebook completely, permanently, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I just deactivated it. Not that I think Facebook is that great or anything, but I have been able to use it for a lot of good (talking to long lost friends, encouraging people who are down, finding ways to help someone or let someone borrow something, finding addresses for missionaries, or even getting lost items such as an iPod or wrongly addressed letter back to its owner, ect). Also, I only go on a few times a week, for less than five minutes a ses. Definitely not addicted. So why delete? Maybe this is a dumb reason, but I was sick of the pseudo-connection we have going on with relationships. There are a lot of people I really care about. Like a lot. And it is hard to see their lives at such a distance, not really being able to be a part of it or do anything to help them. But I think what really got me was that there might be people who are watching my Facebook who never talk to me, never text, or call, or, let's not get too traditional, talk face to face. And that actually bothered me. Why? I don't know, but I think that if someone actually cares enough about me to want to keep tabs on my life and be a part of it, they can call me up on the phone. But here are the problems: Am I actually enhancing human connection and authentic communication by removing myself from a social level that is possibly even fundamental to our society? What about my friends from high school who I probably am never going to call or get a call from them out of the blue? What about wedding invitations and party invitations? What about Facebook groups? The ward group? So that is why it is just deactivated, not deleted. It is silly really, but also, I gotta admit, it is kind of fun to not have one. Maybe I will delete my email address, phone number, and street address as well. Then people will just have to find me face to face and get a convo in. Elusive isn't it? Maybe I have gone too far? Oh the modern condition, where is the line? or does a line even exist?

Everyone Should Know

Everyone should know I am obsessed with this blog. Maybe part of it is knowing the writer, but it is also just way good writing, with a sassy touch of colloquialisms and slang.

I am obsessed with Haiku

"Trust your heart if the seas catch fire, live by love though the stars walk backward." - e e cummings

Just because I like to, I decided to write a poem. Then I transformed it to Haiku version because lately, I have been obsessed.

If the sea catches
fire maybe it will burn the
entire ocean

between us, but if
the sea catches fire and it
doesn’t burn anything I

am going to tell
you that I forgot to swim,
I think. Because when

I put my foot in
the water I get beached. So would
you please unharbor

Your docked boat and come
across the water to me,
If the sea catches

Poem a Day

A Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock

The houses are haunted
By white night-gowns.
None are green,
Or purple with yellow rings,
Or yellow with blue rings.
None of them are strange,
With socks of lace
And beaded ceintures.
People are not going
To dream of baboons and periwinkles.
Only, here and there, an old sailor,
Drunk and asleep in his boots,
Catches Tigers
In red weather.

 - Wallace Stevens

This poem has had a huge influence on my own poetry.

What I have been reading

In my reading, I came across 44 Aphorisms by Richardson. Here is number seven.

Ah, what can fill the heart? But then, what can't?

So true, this phrase is. One might argue that nothing can fill to fullness but love, which is true. A pure love for another human does fill the heart up so tightly. And for some people, this love may be hard to find, and so they ask, "what can fill the heart?" because they feel the lack. But also, our hearts are our own. I can do whatever I want with my heart. I can love whatever I want, worship whatever I want, serve whoever I want. And I think it is who I decide to love and worship that enters my heart and fills it. I want to give my whole heart to God, and in my experience, when I do that, He gives me back so much of His love so then I can better serve and love those around me. But I also must be careful not to let things of a lessor value enter into my heart. Because it is what we spend our time doing and our minds thinking about that enters into our heart and becomes a part of who we are. I just really enjoyed this aphorism; there is so much found in these eleven words.

Illuminated Texts: These are unreal

My brother left on a mission, so I wrote some poetry

The Curbside as I remember it

He was dressed in his black suit;
His silly smile jumping around his face -
Nervous? He said he wasn't,
Just talking about our cat and trying to lick my hand whenever it was near him -
My brother. Sitting in the backseat of the car as we pulled up to the MTC.
"Remember that lick for the next two years."
Shuttled up to the curbside, he got out
Pulled his bags from the back of the car
Hugged Mom; hugged Dad -
Then it was my turn:
He stood up on the curb -
Like a banner -
All six feet and six inches of him.
I was a step down, on the road
As I reached to wrap my arms around him,
He was so tall up on that curb that I pulled him down to the street with me.
We laughed, and I let go.
He turned around and walked,
Walking away from us, but toward -
A step toward Boston, MA
Where he would shape his heart a bit,
And write messy letters to tell me about it.

In the LDS church, young boys and girls leave on missions for two years. My brother is eighteen and he will be serving in Boston preaching the Gospel and helping people find the love, happiness, and peace only Christ can offer.

So then I wrote more poetry, just sloppy, right out of my mind, unedited poetry. This next one is about a friend.

crossing the waves
(chop, chop waves)
In my mind you are setting the table
for dinner and company
in your basement apartment
in September,
but really, where are you?
Get all this water out -
(chop, chop waves)
There's an ocean between us

And then just for sweet Sophie, a silly little verse because I miss her.

Sister's Sonnet replays in my thoughts.
What are you doing three hundred miles away?
She Lives for Hugs,
Lives on.

And then a little modified Haiku because I realized recently, I actually love this form.

I miss you because
I know you are really gone
But I love you like
I hope you'll come back to me.
